ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunday Worship: We Will Again Offer Both Online and Outdoor Worship this Sunday, July 12, at 10am.  To view the service on Facebook, please click on the following link provided.  https://www.facebook.com/ICRCLansing/.

Communion this Sunday:  Communion will be served during the worship service this coming Sunday, July12. Individually wrapped communion kits will be used for the outdoor, in-person service. If you plan to worship with us virtually and desire to take part in communion please have elements ready for partaking following the message.

July Calling Team:  Please call Rick H or Julie L with any special concerns or requests.

July Mission of the Month: Judson’s Love Clothing Center provides clothing for school aged children. We have an opportunity to be a part of this great effort by collecting new and gently used clothing during the month of July. All children’s clothing is helpful, but especially needed is, new socks and underwear.  There will be a box for donations just inside of the church entryway on the bench Sunday mornings during the Outdoor Worship Service time. You may also make a monetary donation towards this very worthy cause.

Consistory Update:  The consistory met this week and covered several items of business. Here is what we want to pass along to you at this time:

1) Sunday, 10am Outdoor Worship will Continue for a Few More Weeks! We have been pleased with the positive response to meeting together outdoors on Sunday mornings in an attempt to create the safest environment for the well-being of all people. People have expressed their delight in worshiping outdoors as the weather has been nice. This past week we added tent canopies to create some shade and relief from the hot sun. Others have beat the heat by sitting in their cars and listening to the service on 1630 AM radio! Special thanks to all who have helped to make these services possible.

In case of rain, outdoor services will be cancelled and shown live on Facebook starting at 10am. Consistory will make the decision by 8am so there is time to contact each of you before you leave for church.

We are keeping a running list of volunteers to help on Sunday mornings when we move indoors. We still need several more to safely worship inside. Please contact the church office (office@icrclansing.org) to let us know of your availability.

2) God Dreams Meeting to Review Quarterly Goals Will Take Place on Tuesday, July 21, at 6:30pm. Weather permitting this meeting will take place outdoors and by Zoom for all who cannot or choose not to meet in person. A formal report will follow during worship on July 26.

Search Team Update:  The search team continues to meet each Wednesday and is working diligently to develop an ICRC Church Profile Form, which is an important document for the overall pastoral search process. We are in the midst of writing content and gathering photos of our life together, that will be included in it and be used to update the ICRC website. If you have any concerns about appearing in potential photos, please let Michelle C know by July 19.  After this date, we will assume that it is OK to use pictures of you for these purposes.

Independent Youth Summer Program: From now until September 1st, students can earn points by completing posted tasks such as attending an Immanuel drive-in service, doing acts of service, memorizing scripture, watching and responding to videos, and more.  As they accumulate points, they will earn a variety of prizes. Parents this is an excellent opportunity for your kids to grow spiritually, so please encourage them to get started by clicking on the link provided below:

http://www.icrclansing.org/youth-summer-program?fbclid=IwAR1phwvN80dePTm3J1g5nkUVrPl_qc_dvoTod6z_7VP2D4qNAuJqoRl6xlQ

Annual Rummage Sale: (Date TBD) If you have items to contribute to this sale, you may drop them off Mon-Wed during office hours, or on Sunday mornings before or after the service.  We will be storing items in the garage at the Parsonage. If you plan to come during the week, please call the office first so that Stacia can meet you over there to open the garage.  If you are not able to make it during these specified times, please contact Joey S to work out other arrangements.  We will also be accepting returnable pop/beer cans for this youth group fundraiser so if you have any of those just sitting around, please bring them too!

Shade is in Short Supply Outside of the Church Building: We will be setting up pop- up canopies to sit under if you prefer to worship outside of your car. If you have a pop-up tent/ canopy that you would be willing to let us use on Sundays, please let us know, drop it off (labeled please), or bring it with you, as shade will be a relief on these warm summer days!

Thank You for Your Continued Tithes and Offerings:  The ongoing ministry of the church relies on the generous giving of its members. Even though we won’t be gathering at the church building you may submit your tithes and offerings online via our website at, www.icrclansing.org, and then click on “Giving” at the top of the page, or you may mail them to our office at 3200 Delta River Dr., Lansing MI, 48906. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the church office at (517) 321-2495.

Summer Trip: Alger August 12-16:  After much consideration, we have decided that we are going to have our Alger Trip from Wednesday August 12th to Sunday August 16th (note that we have extended the trip by one day). The trip will, once again, be to Liz and Cecil Stanton’s property in Alger, MI (about 2 hours Northeast of Lansing). Liz and Cecil have a cabin on the property but it will mostly be a camping situation where we will be sleeping in tents.

Covid-19 Precautions

We determined that it is not going to be feasible to stay distanced from each other or to require masks on the whole trip. We will however, keep everybody separated from anybody who is not in our group. Only a select few adult leaders will be going to the store, gas station, etc. and will be required to wear masks and stay at least six feet away from strangers. Furthermore, Alger is a rural area that has not had many cases of Covid-19. Participants will also be temperature checked prior to departure.

Who can go?

This trip is open to the entire church with activities and devotions being geared towards youth and young adults (any kids in 4th grade and younger will need to be accompanied by a parent).

Parents

If you do not feel comfortable sending your student(s) on this trip, we completely understand. If you are on the fence and there are other precautions you would like us to take that would help you feel better about it, please contact me so we can talk about it.

Cost and Details

The cost of the trip is $50 per person.

Please sign up by emailing Joey jrsouth16@yahoo.com. The deadline to sign up is 7/17.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Sunday Worship: We Will Again Offer Both Online and Outdoor Worship this Sunday, July 5, at 10am. The Reverend Andy Bossardet will be preaching the word to us. Andy is a good friend of Pastor Tom's and also the Coordinator for equipping thriving congregations in the RCA.

July Calling Team:  Please call Rick H or Julie L with any special concerns or requests.

July Mission of the Month: Judson’s Love Clothing Center provides clothing for school aged children, serving over 800 children during the months of August and September! We have the opportunity to be a part of that great effort by collecting new and gently used clothing during the month of July. All children’s clothing is helpful, but especially needed is: new socks and underwear, and new or like new school uniforms. Judson’s goal is to provide a week’s worth of socks and underwear for each child.  There will be a box for donations just inside of the church entryway on the bench, on Sunday mornings during the Outdoor Worship Service time. You may also make a monetary donation towards this very worthy cause.

Search Team Update:  The search team continues to meet each Wednesday and is working diligently to develop an ICRC Church Profile Form, which is an important document for the overall pastoral search process. If you have any concerns about appearing in potential photos, please let Michelle C. know promptly. Thank you for your continued support and prayers for the search team.

Sunday Outdoor Worship:  It was a great service last Sunday as many gathered outdoors at Immanuel to worship together. Some stayed in their cars listening to the service on 1630 AM radio, and others brought pocket chairs and sat in the parking lot. The sun was bright, the sky was blue, and a light breeze brought comfort from the direct sun! The service lasted about 50 minutes and we were on our way!

We also had a mostly successful recording live on Facebook for online viewing! The only glitch we know of was a sideways picture and we have figured out a solution for this so that all of our online worshippers can continue to stay at home where it is safe and join in Immanuel worship!

Shade is in Short Supply Outside of the Church Building: We will be setting up pop- up canopies to sit under if you prefer to worship outside of your car. If you have a pop-up tent/ canopy that you would be willing to let us use on Sundays, please let us know, drop it off (labeled please), or bring it with you as shade will be a relief on these warm summer days!

Thanks to All of You that Have Volunteered to Help on Sundays in Order to Keep us all Safe!

New Keys to be Distributed:  The locks here at ICRC will be changed soon.  If you currently have a key and are eligible to receive a new one, you will have to sign for it and check it out with Gary A. Gary will have a table set up inside of the pole barn after the service today.  If you will be needing a new key, please be sure to see him before you leave.  You will not need to return your old key, please just hold on to it for the time being.  The locks will not be changed until everybody that is eligible has received their key.  You are also responsible to return the key back to Gary and sign it back in if you happen to leave your position.

Please take a moment to look this over and if you have any questions, feel free to contact the church office.

1.      Greeting - offering a warm welcome to members and guests and helping to keep traffic moving into and out of the sanctuary.

Re-opening ICRC:  Thank you for taking a moment to complete the survey letting us know where you are with reopening the church. Based on the results of the survey the elders have begun discussions about opening safely as soon as we can. Since gathering back together means planning for two different congregations to restart in the same building, our startup plan must be discussed with both leadership bodies and a formal plan put in place. Please be patient with this process and pray for both consistories to have God's wisdom and a spirit of unity.

Search Team Updates:  We're happy to share the Pastoral Search Team has met three times via Zoom. Currently, we are developing the Church Profile Form; content & format and analyzing the Congregational Survey (Pastor) results. We look forward to sharing this information with the congregation soon. Stay tuned!

Consistory Updates:  Congratulations to the new Elders and Deacons that were prayerfully selected after the service last Sunday:  Elders:  Eric C, and Sandy C.  Deacons:  Mike J, and Sue F.

We will give you an opportunity to respond to the 2020/2021 budget at a later date. In the meantime, please look it over and contact Brian Williams, Jennifer B, Carrie B or Julie L with any questions or concerns.

Re-opening ICRC:  Thank you for taking a moment last week to complete the survey letting us know where you are with reopening the church. ICRC Consistory will be meeting again on Tuesday to further the discussion and development of a plan. We will share it with you as soon as we can. We look forward to meeting together again soon. If you have any questions please contact one of the current elders or Pastor Tom.

ICRC Pastor Job Description:  The Consistory will be writing a job description for the pastoral vacancy based on congregational input from the recent survey, attention to Mission, Vision and Values, as well as the God Dreams report. This important document will be added to the work of the Search Team as they develop a Church Profile to send to potential candidates.

Search Team Updates:  We're happy to share the Pastoral Search Team has met three times via Zoom. Currently, we are developing the Church Profile Form; content & format and analyzing the Congregational Survey (Pastor) results. We look forward to sharing this information with the congregation soon. Stay tuned!

Prayers:  Please be praying for Wayne K as he recovers from back surgery.

Attention Kids A video called, “Glow in the Dark”, will be shown just for you during our live streaming of church today! Stay tuned after the video to find out how you can get lots of fun activities to do at home that go along with this video lesson!

Thank You for Your Continued Tithes and Offerings:  The ongoing ministry of the church relies on the generous giving of its members. Even though we won’t be gathering at the church building you may submit your tithes and offerings online via our website at, www.icrclansing.org, and then click on “Giving” at the top of the page, or you may mail them directly to our office at 3200 Delta River Dr., Lansing MI, 48906.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the church office at (517) 321-2495.

Your Leaders are so thankful for your fervent prayers, especially in these continuing uncertain times. They and your staff and Consistory continue to work toward safe ways of possible worship in the near future, keeping up with the most recent developments and continually making sure we stay connected and on pace to accomplish our seven-year vision.

Please keep praying for the world’s medical people and first responders in the midst of treating others, their families who miss them terribly, those in research who are working tirelessly to find a vaccine or any help to curtail this virus, people who are being arrested and jailed for wanting to work, our divided governmental leaders for wisdom as they make decisions and our constitutional republic to stand strong.

Immanuel Response to Social Distancing Requirements:

In light of recent government regulations and CDC recommendations to cancel gatherings of 50 or more and discouraging groups of 10 or more, Immanuel is committed to honoring the intent of these measures by canceling all church gatherings and closing the church building until at least June 12, 2020. This moratorium may be extended, based on government regulations.

However, our mission remains our focus and our ministry will still happen in new and creative ways. Here are ways for us to stay connected while physically apart:

Sunday Worship: Services will be recorded and streamed on our public Facebook page. You can get to our page by clicking on the link provided: https://www.facebook.com/ICRCLansing/

The service will start streaming at 10am Sunday mornings. Casual attire is encouraged and singing along is applauded. A sermon outline is included as an attachment if you still want to take notes as you follow along.

The live video remains on our page after the service, so no worries if you need to sign on later. You can watch it at any time. To help spread the word about our worship at Immanuel, “like” or “share” the link and FB viewers will be able to see the service.

Commissioning of the Pastoral Search Team:  After the message today, we will be commissioning the members of our Pastoral Search Team:

Chair: Michelle C, Mike J, Emily W, Joey S, Jennifer B, Wayne K, Bruce T, and Liaison: Tom Grabill.

Please be praying for this team as they begin their search.  Pray for unity, spiritual strength, wisdom, and endurance.

Proposed Budget for the 2020/2021 Fiscal Year:  Please take a moment to look over the proposed budget and become familiar with it, we will be voting on it at our Congregational Meeting Sunday, May 31.

Gathering Timely and Important Information:  On Thursday, May 21, 2 surveys were sent out to the congregation either by email or regular mail asking for your valuable feedback regarding:

1) Reopening Safely

2) What are We Looking for in a New Pastor.

The first survey will guide leadership in the planning of when and how we will begin to transition back to meeting together in this season of Covid-19.

The second survey helps the consistory develop a job description for the next Pastor, and the Search Team understand important characteristics and strengths to watch for as they interview potential candidates.

You have two formats by which you can take the survey.  You can either fill it out online by simply clicking on the links above and follow the instructions, or you can print the attachments, fill out with pencil or pen, and mail them back to the church office.

Anyone in your household who wishes to complete the surveys may do so. If all members share the same sentiments only one survey for all needs to be filled out or each individual can complete their own. So that we can do our work in a timely fashion we ask that you complete the surveys and return them by next Thursday, May 28.

A Need for Lightweight Summer Dresses, sizes 12-18 Months- Ann H niece, Nora L, who is currently serving at an orphanage/maternity center in Haiti, has a need for lightweight summer dresses size 12-18 months.  There are no thrift stores open, so we'll have to make our own. Simple patterns will work best, as these will be no closure affairs. Haitian moms do little with diapers, so the little matching panties that we might use will not be needed. Also, If anyone who doesn't sew can donate lightweight fabrics, that would be appreciated as well. Laundry is done by hand in the rivers, so cotton, or easy to wash and dry material is important. Anyone interested in helping out can contact Ann H, or Carol C.

Leadership Team Meeting:  This Wednesday, April 8.  If you are part of a leadership team, please watch for an email from Pastor Tom regarding this meeting.  There will be a link in that email to click on to join the meeting via Zoom.

Maundy Thursday Communion Service:  Will stream live on Facebook Thursday, April 9, at 7:00 pm.  Please have bread available as well as something to drink that resembles the blood of Jesus (grape juice for example) so that we can celebrate a virtual communion together.

Good Friday, April 10:  Please make a commit to pray for at least a half hour on this day.  Pray for your church, your communities, and the world.

Summer Camp Grants:  Like many things in our life right now, summer camps are currently in question. Both Camp Geneva and Cranhill Ranch are actively monitoring the evolving situation, while accepting applications for summer camp. Assuming the camps can be held, Immanuel will be offering camp grants again this year to children and youth in the congregation who go to one of these camps. Please reach out to Kelly J if you have a child who will be attending camp and are interested in a camp grant.

Thank You for Your Continued Tithes and Offerings:  The ongoing ministry of the church relies on the generous giving of its members. Immanuel Response to Social Distancing Requirements:

In light of recent government regulations and CDC recommendations to cancel gatherings of 50 or more and discouraging groups of 10 or more, Immanuel is committed to honoring the intent of these measures by canceling all church gatherings and closing the church building until at least April 6, 2020.

It is recommended to gather some stones that you can use as a response to the message, as we have been doing during our series, A Journey of Stones. You will be given a chance to respond as you have been previously.

The live video remains on our page after the service so no worries if you need to sign on later. You can watch it at any time. To help spread the word about our worship at Immanuel, “like” or “share” the link and FB viewers will be able to see the service.

An audio recording of the sermon is also available on the website. This is accessible beginning on Monday mornings.

Pastoral Care and Connection: To substitute for our regular face-to-face contact and fellowship, we are working on developing a team of Care Callers who will check up on the members and friends of ICRC weekly. The purpose of the call will be to check-in, offer support and encouragement and respond to needs. If you are comfortable on the phone and would like to serve as a Care Caller, please contact us at the church office: office@icrclansing.org and we will get you started.

In addition to the Care Callers, we would like to develop a Care Response Team, prepared and ready to respond to needs that come up in our congregation and community, especially among the elderly and disabled. If you would be available and willing to provide a ride or gather items of need for drop off, you also can let us know your willingness and availability by contacting the church office: office@icrclansing.org.

If you aren’t comfortable calling or can’t provide services but would be willing to coordinate care efforts, we would love to hear from you. Please contact the church office: office@icrclansing.org.

Next Generation opportunities:

We have passionate and creative staff and leaders who are working diligently to dream and develop innovative strategies to keep faith development progressing from a distance. Technology is our friend in times like this and we will be taking full advantage of email, Facebook, Facetime, Zoom and other electronic platforms to connect with children and youth until the church doors are able to open again. Keep checking your emails and our Facebook page to keep up with these developing activities. We encourage families to participate together and have fun! Don’t be surprised if we even utilized USPS as a means of creative programming!

Have fun and keep growing!

Sunday Services:  Until further notice, our weekly Sunday services will be streamed live on our ICRC Facebook page at 10 am.  You do not need a Facebook account to watch because it is a public page. You can get to our page by clicking on the link provided:  https://www.facebook.com/ICRCLansing/.  The live video remains on our page after the service as well, so no worries if you have to sign on later, you can watch it at any time.

Attention Parents:  Because kids love to get mail, we will be sending a Children’s Bulletin to your address weekly addressed directly to your child/children for them to work on and enhance their spiritual growth during this time that we are unable to meet with them at church for either Sunday School or CONNECT.  We will also be including a self-addressed, stamped envelope with these bulletins so that after the kids have completed them, they can send them back to us here at the church. We will then keep track of how the kids are doing and after we have received 3 back from each individual child, they will earn an award!  Please be watching for these to come in the mail, and if for some reason your child has not received one, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can get them on the mailing list.

Audio recordings of the sermon are available on the website. This is accessible beginning on Mondays.

Next Generation opportunities: We have passionate and creative staff and leaders who are working diligently to dream and develop innovative strategies to keep faith development progressing from a distance.

Your Leaders covet your fervent Prayer especially in these uncertain times. The staff and Consistory continue to keep up with the most recent developments and are making decisions continually to make sure we stay connected and on pace to accomplish our seven year vision.

Staff: Pastor Tom Grabill, Joey South, Darla Lucero, Stacia Wojnaroski

Consistory: Dave South, Marcia Jackson, Rick Harrison, Tod VanWieren, Brian Williams, Julie Lewis, Carrie Blanck and Jennifer Blanck, and our ministry teams

ANNOUNCEMENTS

March Calling Team:  Please call Rick Harrison (503-290-9779) or Julie Lewis (881-1665) with any special concerns or requests.

March Mission of the Month: “The Gideons International”. Their needs are still very real, so you can send this month’s Mission gift to the office.

Please reach out to Kelly Johnson if you have a child who will be attending camp and are interested in a camp grant.

If You Need to Speak with Pastor Tom:  He can be contacted either by phone call or text at (616) 610-7454.  You may also reach him via email at tom.grabill@gmail.com.

Siloam Christian Church Please pray for our partner church as they too adjust to remote ministry and that their ministry to the local Nepali community will continue growing!
