Of Tulips and Dandilions

I’m sure you have heard the old saying, “April showers bring May flowers.”  Well, that is true, but April showers also bring dandelions and crab grass and creeping charlie and a whole host of other weeds, and if those weeds are not kept in check they will choke and kill the beautiful flowers.  April showers may bring about beautiful new life, but along with that new life comes a numerous other challenges and a lot of hard work.

I believe the same thing is true with spiritual new life in Christ.  When we are made new in Christ through the grace of God wonderful blessings begin to blossom within us.  But at the same time the weeds, the “Enemy” seeks to choke and kill the new life that is within in us.  Like the beautiful spring flowers, it takes work to keep our spiritual new life alive.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians 16: 13, “Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”  In the same we maintain our flower gardens,  keeping a close watch for weeds and doing the hard work of eliminating them when they appear, so to we need to keep a close watch on our spiritual lives and when we see weeds beginning to creep in, do the hard work of eliminating them.  A beautiful garden is a testimony to hard work.  A vibrant spiritual life is also a testimony to a lot of hard work.  Who hard are you working??

By the way, read Ephesians 5: 1.
