 December Mission of the Month: “God’s Pit Crew” (Hurricane Relief) –Mission: “With God’s help and direction; to bring hope, help, and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

 CONNECT: The kids will be watching a movie called, “The Small One.” They will then play Sink the Ship and Pin the Tail on the Donkey with Jennifer, Tony, and Brian!

 Cumberland School, Another Opportunity to Serve:  In the discussion with Pastor after service Sunday, we became aware that the best way to reach the children of Cumberland is to work with them one on one.  At a minimum, our goal is to get some of these kids into the Wednesday night CONNECT program. There are teachers at Cumberland that have children falling behind in math. Another teacher has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades in her room. They could all use some assistance.  I'm sure there are also more needs than just these. Please consider taking some time, 1 or 2 days a week, to help them. There is a form to fill out to meet the Lansing School Distracts security requirements.  I have those so please come and see me if you are interested in assisting~ Viv M

 December Mission of the Month: “God’s Pit Crew” (Hurricane Relief) – As of November 2017, God’s Pit Crew has responded to 99 major disasters in 25 states and 11 countries. They have built and furnished more than 40 homes and freely donated them to families in need as well as renovated dozens of churches and children’s homes. Their mission is: “With God’s help and direction to bring hope, help and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

 50th Wedding Anniversary- Cake will be served in the FLC after service today in celebration of Dean and Marcia J’s Golden Anniversary! Congratulations to you both!

 CONNECT: The kids will be studying the Wise Men and Shepherds story. They will then be making felt trees and decorations with Julie!

 November Mission of the Month: Elm Tree Ministries. Sara E has been living and serving in Honduras now for 4 1/2 years. She has been teaching Sunday school for 3 years and is running a trade school for women who are able to craft items to sell so that they can generate income to help support their families. She also teaches English classes 3 days a week for 2 hours a day. The Missions house there is a place for cooking and baking as well as a place that the children can go to for help with their homework and tutoring. The roof and the electrical has already been done for this house, but they are looking forward to building a stronger security wall around it.  We will be filling bags for Cumberland Elementary School directly after service today. Please come downstairs if you would like to help. Thank you!

There is a signup sheet in the Family Life Center for donations. The cost of each basket is $40. When you sign up, please designate how many baskets you would like to pay for. Deadline for this sign up is November 11. Please help us reach our goal of 70 baskets this year!

1.      The paper folding machine, that folds the weekly bulletin, was taking one-   page-of-paper-at-a-time: very time consuming. The machine was serviced and now accepts a stack of paper as designed.

2.      The two floor cleaning machines have stopped working. Attempts by staff to restore their function have failed. Both machines will be sent out for service.

3.      The pew cushions have received their first ever professional cleaning and stain resistant treatment.

4.      The carpets were professionally cleaned

5.      The office copy machine has been replaced due to aging machine failure.

6.      The parking lot resurfacing has been completed.

 October Mission of the Month: “No Senior Without a Christmas”- TRIAD fills 350 boxes with household supplies, non-perishable food, and holiday cheer. The boxes are then delivered to needy, older adults living in the tri-county area by a uniformed law enforcement officer or fire personnel. We will be collecting bottles of shampoo as well as taking a special offering on 10/21 for this special event. There will be a box outside of the sanctuary beginning 10/7.  

 Sunday School / Children and Worship: Sunday School will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. – Children and Worship is for 3yr olds through 2nd grade. For the safety of the children, a parent or responsible adult must be present before the children will be released.

 Backpack Ministry- Next Sunday we will be filling bags. If you are interested in helping, please come downstairs to the pantry directly after service! The more helpers the better! Thank you so much!

 Crop Walk:  Next Sunday! Registration begins at 1:00 p.m., walk begins at 2:00 p.m.,   please keep all of our walkers and rockers in your prayers and give to a worthy cause by pledging a donation to one or more of them.

 CONNECT: Please join us for dinner Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. Activities for the kids will begin at 6:15 p.m. The lesson for this week will about being naughty or nice. “What would Jesus do?” The kids will be making a beautiful stained glass vase for your fall flowers!

 A Night of Fun and Food: Saturday, October 20, we will be having an all church game night! Everybody is invited to bring their favorite game and their favorite snack to church. Tables will be set up in the choir room. All ages invited! A sign up sheet has been posted on the bulletin board in the Family Life Center!

 Painting with Sandi S: There will be painting with Sandi this week on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. and every other Tuesday following.  Come get creative and join in the fun!

An Evening of Southern Gospel Music at South Church:  Friday October 26, 2018. Sheryl E would like to order group tickets for our church. Tickets are $12 each. If we get group tickets, we can get in early and sit together! Please let Sheryl know if you are interested.

Thanksgiving Plans? If there is enough interest, plans will be made to share a Thanksgiving dinner at church at 5:30 p.m. Thanksgiving day. The turkey will be cooked at church and participants will be asked to bring a dish to share. The members of Siloam Nepali congregation are being invited to participate as well! A signup sheet is posted in the Family Life Center.

September Mission of the Month…Immanual’s Backpack Ministry… This ministry provides food to 160 children at Cumberland school once a month. With your help, this has become a vital part of this neighborhood and church.  The children are better for these backpacks and their teachers notice a difference!

 The Great Lakes City (RCA) Executive Team has approved the criteria and formation of a Search Team to select our next Classis Leader and is seeking applicants. We Want You! Diversity on the search team would include an equal number of elders and pastors, male and female participants, and include geographic diversity. August Mission of the Month….El Ayundante.  This organization was our host in 2014 when our group went to Honduras for mission work. They focus on meeting the needs around them such as clean water, housing, and now have a medical, dental, and optical clinic on site!  www.elayudanteinhonduras.com

July Mission of the Month… thanks to all who contributed to the July MOM.  We were able to donate 749 pieces of new and gently used school clothes to the Judson Back to School clothing bank.  Many of you made a monetary contribution; that is greatly appreciated also.  Judson can  purchase items that are not donated.  If anyone missed the July deadline, but would still like to donate clothing, please see Carrie B. or Linda B. to make sure the clothing gets to the clothing bank.

July Mission of the Month…  this month’s offering is for Love Clothing Center.  As of last Sunday, we collected 642 pieces of clothing! Thank you for the new socks, underwear and school age clothes. A collection basket is at the top of the stairs by the bulletin board. They really need help in distributing these clothes, also!!   For any questions about donating or helping at the Center, contact Carrie B. or Linda B.
