January Mission of the Month: The City Rescue Mission is a Christian ministry that provides shelter to 140 women, children, and men every night and serves about 100,000 meals each year. The Rescue Mission of Lansing will be opening a new center called "The Outreach" on January 21.  This center is for men and women who struggle in a traditional shelter due to addiction or mental illness issues. Please consider what you can give to this mission today, and keep in mind whether you would like your donations to go to their general fund, to the new Outreach mission, or if you would like it split between the two. If you do have a preference, please see Julie L.

Painting with Sandi- Come join in some creative fun this Tuesday in the choir room!  Painting classes with Sandi S take place on the second and fourth Tuesdays each month!

CONNECT: This Wednesday! Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.  The children will be enjoying an ice cream social afterwards! Come join in the fun! Adults please meet in the choir room at 6:30 p.m. for the Heidelberg Catechism class.

Prayers:  Please keep the Prince and the South Family in your prayers for the recent loss of their loved one Norman Prince. Norman was Gordon Prince's brother, and brother-in-law to David South.

Senior High Youth Group: will resume meeting on Sundays starting this week from 5:30p.m.-7:30p.m.

CONNECT: This Wednesday! Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.  The children will be making God’s eyes. Adults come join us for the Heidelberg Catechism class starting at 6:30 p.m.

 Church Unique: Our Church Unique team met again yesterday to discuss our church’s Apostolic Espirit (What particular focus energizes our leadership?)   Please join us in the choir room after service today to discuss the outcome of this meeting!

CONNECT: Resumes this Wednesday! Please come join us for fellowship and grow in your faith! Dinner starts at 5:30 p.m.  The children’s classes start afterward at 6:15 p.m., and the adult Heidelberg Catechism class starts at 6:30 p.m.

Another teacher has 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades in her room. They could all use some assistance.  I'm sure there are also more needs than just these.  December Mission of the Month: “God’s Pit Crew” (Hurricane Relief) – As of November 2017, God’s Pit Crew has responded to 99 major disasters in 25 states and 11 countries. They have built and furnished more than 40 homes and freely donated them to families in need as well as renovated dozens of churches and children’s homes. Their mission is: “With God’s help and direction to bring hope, help and restoration to hurting people in times of crisis.”

 50th Wedding Anniversary- Cake will be served in the FLC after service today in celebration of Dean and Marcia J’s Golden Anniversary! Congratulations to you both!

 CONNECT: The kids will be studying the Wise Men and Shepherds story. They will then be making felt trees and decorations with Julie!

 Mark your calendar: We look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Holiday Potluck on Sunday, Dec. 16, after service. Please think about a special holiday dish that is a tradition for your family and share it with your church family. A sign-up poster is in the FLC to indicate your number of reservations and what you would like to share: appetizer, salad, main dish, or dessert.

She teaches Sunday School and English classes there.  She also has a trade school where woman can craft items to sell so they can generate income for their families, and a mission house where the children can go for help with their homework and tutoring. Please help support Sara and her mission by contributing to this worthy cause today!

 November Mission of the Month: Elm Tree Ministries. Sara E has been living and serving in Honduras now for 4 1/2 years. She has been teaching Sunday school for 3 years and is running a trade school for women who are able to craft items to sell so that they can generate income to help support their families. She also teaches English classes 3 days a week for 2 hours a day. The Missions house there is a place for cooking and baking as well as a place that the children can go to for help with their homework and tutoring. The roof and the electrical has already been done for this house, but they are looking forward to building a stronger security wall around it. Please help Sara and her ministry to help make this happen!

 We will be filling bags for Cumberland Elementary School directly after service today. Please come downstairs if you would like to help. Thank you!

 CONNECT: This week, the children will be working with Bruce and Karla T to make Advent/Christmas ornaments! These will be used for Family Decorating night here at the church on November 25!

 October Mission of the Month: No Senior Without a Christmas”-  Don’t forget we have a collection box outside of the sanctuary still. Our goal is to collect 350 bottles of shampoo! Thank you to all who have donated so far!

 Thanksgiving Basket Donations:  We will be working with Christian Services again this year to provide Thanksgiving baskets for the needy. There is a signup sheet in the Family Life Center for donations. The cost of each basket is $40. When you sign up, please designate how many baskets you would like to pay for. Deadline for this sign up is November 11. Please help us reach our goal of 70 baskets this year!

1.      The paper folding machine, that folds the weekly bulletin, was taking one-   page-of-paper-at-a-time: very time consuming. The machine was serviced and now accepts a stack of paper as designed.

2.      The two floor cleaning machines have stopped working. Attempts by staff to restore their function have failed. Both machines will be sent out for service.

3.      The pew cushions have received their first ever professional cleaning and stain resistant treatment.

4.      The carpets were professionally cleaned

5.      The office copy machine has been replaced due to aging machine failure.

6.      The parking lot resurfacing has been completed.

 October Mission of the Month: “No Senior Without a Christmas”- TRIAD fills 350 boxes with household supplies, non-perishable food, and holiday cheer. The boxes are then delivered to needy, older adults living in the tri-county area by a uniformed law enforcement officer or fire personnel. We will be collecting bottles of shampoo as well as taking a special offering on 10/21 for this special event. There will be a box outside of the sanctuary beginning 10/7.  

 Sunday School / Children and Worship: Sunday School will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. – Children and Worship is for 3yr olds through 2nd grade. For the safety of the children, a parent or responsible adult must be present before the children will be released.

 Backpack Ministry- Next Sunday we will be filling bags. If you are interested in helping, please come downstairs to the pantry directly after service! The more helpers the better! Thank you so much!

Thanksgiving Plans? If there is enough interest, plans will be made to share a Thanksgiving dinner at church at 5:30 p.m. Thanksgiving day. The turkey will be cooked at church and participants will be asked to bring a dish to share. The members of Siloam Nepali congregation are being invited to participate as well!  Sunday School / Children and Worship: Sunday School will be from 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. – Children and Worship is for 3yr olds through 2nd grade. For the safety of the children, a parent or responsible adult must be present before the children will be released.

 CONNECT: Please join us for dinner Wednesday nights at 5:30 p.m. Activities for the kids will begin at 6:15 p.m. The lesson for this week will be teaching about being naughty or nice,” What would Jesus do?” The kids will also be painting stained glass vases for your fall flowers!

 Christmas Program: We are looking for participants (actors/performers, helpers) of all ages! There is a sign-up poster in the Family Life Center with more details.  We would like to have an idea of participation by October 21 so that we can finalize the cast and plan accordingly.  An Evening of Southern Gospel Music at South Church: Friday, October 6, 2018.  Sheryl E. would like to order group tickets for our church. Tickets are $12 each. If we get group tickets, we can get in early and sit together!  Please let Sheryl know if you are interested. She will be purchasing the tickets. What a wonderful way to share in Christian fellowship together!

September Mission of the Month…Immanual’s Backpack Ministry… This ministry provides food to 160 children at Cumberland school once a month. With your help, this has become a vital part of this neighborhood and church.  The children are better for these backpacks and their teachers notice a difference!

 The Great Lakes City (RCA) Executive Team has approved the criteria and formation of a Search Team to select our next Classis Leader and is seeking applicants. We Want You! Diversity on the search team would include an equal number of elders and pastors, male and female participants, and include geographic diversity. It should include representation from racially diverse people, those who attend large and small congregations, established and new congregations, as well as younger and older participants.  Want to shape the future of our network of churches?  Please apply to be on the GLCC Search Team (due Sept. 30, 2018).  More information is available here:  https://tinyurl.com/yckrxyey

 Parking Lot Closed: The parking lot will be closed next week on Monday 9/24 and Tuesday 9/25 for sealing and new striping of the parking spots. If it happens to rain on those days, the backup dates will be October 1st and 2nd. Thank you for your patience during this time.
